MEDICAL “ON-LINE” CONSULTATION IN OTOLARYNGOLOGY

Since November 2001, the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing have launched “on-line” medical consultations on the Internet. The consultation cover the whole range of medical services provided by the Institute, including:

1. Diagnostics of hearing impairments,

2. Surgical treatment of the hearing system,

3. Diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus and hyperacousis,

4. Diagnostics and treatment of voice and speech impairments,

5. Rehabilitation of hearing impairments.

Specific subjects have been presented in individual sessions, allocated in consecutive weekdays, according to the schedule published on the Institute Web pages. During five months of consultation, medical specialist from the Institute have answered dozens of general questions, as well as numerous questions related to specific hearing disorders, and speech and voice impairments. Among the persons who logged-in for the consultations, there have been people with otolaryngological health problems and family members or relatives of the patients. 

Taking into account the analysis of kinds of subjects and the range of medical problems that appeared in the consultations, one can state that there was a great need for creating this form of medical help. It makes it easier for the patients to contact medical specialists, and facilitates the access to leading medical centres.
